Hematopathology

Pathology Center performs diagnostic tests on lymph node, spleen, bone marrow biopsy and surgical excision cases. Center also provides  consultations on pathology material made in other Lithuanian and Latvian pathology centers and performs additional tests. On average, about 1,000 lymph node, 1,400 bone marrow (trephine) biopsies and 200 consultation cases are performed.

Trephine biopsies are decalcified by tissue-sparing EDTA solution, which allows further histochemical, immunohistochemical and molecular work-up.

Molecular studies and a broad spectrum of immunohistochemical markers are used in hematologic pathology, which have not only diagnostic but also prognostic value important for treatment selection and follow-up.
